"Battle stations, someone’s gonna die."
John Watson about the codeword.[src]

Vatican Cameos is a codeword, sometimes used by Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock used the codeword at Irene Adler's house to notify John Watson and Irene that the gun in the safe was about to go off. He then later used it at the wedding of John and Mary Watson to inform John of the imminent death of James Sholto.

Allusions to Conan Doyle storiesEdit

The Vatican cameos were originally mentioned in the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story The Hounds of the Baskervilles. In that story the original Holmes stated:

"I was exceedingly preoccupied by that little affair of the Vatican cameos, and in my anxiety to oblige the Pope I lost touch with several interesting English cases."
