The Lying Detective is the second episode in the forth series of the BBC series Sherlock. First broadcast on 8 January 2017, the episode was written by Steven Moffat, directed by Nick Hurran and produced by Sue Vertue.

The title and general plot are inspired by the Arthur Conan Doyle short story The Adventure of the Dying Detective.

  • The mention of "Drearcliffe House" was a reference to the 1945 film Sherlock Holmes and the House of Fear, starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
