Tea is a brewed beverage. The Chinese pottery expert Soo Lin Yao often brewed tea to look after her clay tea set.
When John first visits 221B Baker Street, Mrs. Hudson offers to make him a cup of tea, though only once because she was his landlady, not his housekeeper. However John decided to follow the consulting detective Sherlock Holmes to the body of Jennifer Wilson, so the tea was never made.
When Sherlock rages after he cannot locate his cigarette supply, Mrs. Hudson offers to make him a cup of tea. Sherlock rejects her offer, saying he needs something seven per cent stronger than tea.
