Lord Blackwood is the villain in the upcoming 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie. He will be played by Mark Strong.
A cultist or satanist[1] who uses fear and his claims of ties to the devil to intimidate others. The character is based on the English occultist Aleister Crowley. Producer Lionel Wigram says the choice of villain was inspired in part by Arthur Conan Doyle's well-known fascination with the occult.[2]
At the beginning of the movie, Sherlock Holmes apparently apprehends Blackwood, who threatens to come back and continue his work from the dead. The movie ends with Blackwood and Holmes in a swordfight on a bridge.[3]
